Manchester Community Colllege

Manchester Community College was a confusing term to me this morning when I awoke at 3:30AM for the journey. My alarm clock was also confusing. I wondered, "Why am I up now? Am I ill? Is it night? What's happening?"
I was mercifully able to rest on the long ride to New Hampshire. But immediately on arriving, we all knew this gig wouldn't suffer from the typical nooner pangs. The team at Manchester Community College had clearly done their job promoting and were even there en masse to help us unload the van. Thie MCC audience was excited and plentiful, and from the kindergardeners to the college kids to the "older kids" (ie, those who recognized the old Oreo commercial) we all had a great time at our show.

Although the whole show was a complete blast including quite a few unexpected laughs, a real highlight for me was that Chatham and I busted out a song that hasn't seen too many performances. Back in 2005, Chris and I decided to compose a few tunes and "Fade Away" was one of them. But, we put it on the shelf for a few years for reasons none of us recall now.

Well, we dusted that sucker off for Manchester and it was a hit! After the show, we had several requests for the song on our next album, and a few folks even asked if we'd email them the lyrics. I'm truly honored that the song resonated with our audience.  I'm reprinting the lyrics on this blog for anyone else who wants to take a peak.

It's nearly 11PM and though it's been a road warrior kind of day, I wanted to say thanks to Manchester for making the long drive well worth it. We had a great time and we can't wait to come back! Please keep us updated on the formation of your wrestling team (legit or costumed) or your competitive Quidditch team. Or some monstrous combination of the two. In return I shall consider sharing a primo mullet photo.

Fade Away

In person you’re a mystery
But something dances in your eyes
A rare enchanted flower on the wall
A Mona Lisa smile
But time is slipping through your hands
For you it’s always midnight at the ball

But just below
The surface there is passion
If you lost control
Would it be so wrong?

And now, when the moment comes, you fade away
Ah but you’ll never know what you’re missing
If you fade away. Don’t you fade away.

Graceful as a glacier
With movement hidden to the eye
But icy blue just isn’t you at all
You say you want to wait a while
But my hands slip into your hands
You’re always so afraid that you could fall

But just below
The surface there is passion
If you lost control
Would it be so wrong?

And now, when the moment comes, you fade away
Ah but you’ll never know what you’re missing
If you fade away. Don’t you fade away.

Kiss my lips
Be breathless
There’s no sense in being a spectator at your own show
You just have to let go

And now, when the moment comes, you fade away
Ah but you’ll never know what you’re missing
If you fade away.
Don’t you fade away
Don’t you fade away
